SAP Reportedly Had Triple-Digit Growth In BI Market

German software maker SAP saw triple-digit growth in business intelligence sales last year, the only top five vendor to increase market share, a research firm said Friday.

Sales for SAP increased 130.9 percent in 2005 to $305.2 million from $132.2 million the previous year, Gartner said. SAP's share of the market increased to 7.6 percent from 3.8 percent

While Business Objects, Cognos, SAS Institute and Hyperion increased revenues in 2005, all saw a drop in market share. Market leader Business Objects fell to 20.4 percent from 20.7 percent; Cognos 13.6 percent from 14.4 percent; SAS 12.8 percent from 14.1 percent; and Hyperion 7.3 percent from 7.9 percent.

Closing in on the top five was No. 6 Microsoft, which saw a 35.9 percent spurt in revenues to $290 million from $213.3 million. Those numbers did not include revenues from ProClarity, which Microsoft agreed to acquire in May.
